We’re very proud that Wendy has been put forward as one of North Devon’s Inspiring Women in Re:Story magazine. Issue Three out next month reveals eight North Devon women (from sports people to business women to those doing brilliant things in the arts and community) who have made the charity’s first ever Inspiring Women list and which looks set to be an annual event.
She had a fabulous portrait taken by leading photographers Guy Harrop and Mikey Corker and the portraits will be on display at Boston Tea Party in Barnstaple for the whole of Feb.
In the article she gave some background to Letterfest – “We work with local illustrators and craftsmen, using a range of traditional techniques such as stone engraving and line illustration in a contemporary way to create items such as wedding venue portraits, engraved pebble keepsakes and typographic art prints”
She was asked who her inspiration was and she nominated her friend Mandy from Belleandboo.com. She’s an illustrator who has designed a range of children’s characters for story books, art prints and a gorgeous selection of homeware.
‘I moved to North Devon from London (where I’d been designer at Topshop) for a change of life and was looking for a way to make a living out of creative work. At the time, Mandy was selling her drawings on Etsy and she introduced me to the idea of retailing your own art online. Without her I wouldn’t have set up Letterfest and she’s still the person I get support and creative inspiration from.’
Re:Story is a magazine created in support of North Devon Against Domestic Abuse. A go-getting local charity, which through its fundraising alone keeps North Devon’s only refuge open – a lifeline that keeps families safe across our community.
