Whether you are running, sponsoring, watching or cheering on from the sidelines we all love the London marathon. A great way to bring out the competitive streak all in the name of a good cause. Every year thousands of people apply to run, last year there was over 40,000 people competing and an impressive £53.2 million was raised for various charities!
The first ever London Marathon was in 1908 for the Olympic games and since has developed over the years to what we know it today. By 1981 it was an annual event that 20,000 people wanted to take part in, it was such a success that the following year over 90,000 applied to run. There were, like today, limited places so only 18,000 were accepted.
Do you all remember Lloyd Scott who has the slowest time on record so far? If not maybe you’ll remember him by what he was wearing…. a 130lb deep sea divers suit! In 2002 it took him 8hours 29mins and 46secs.
In honour of those taking part in the London marathon we have some new personalised engraved pebbles and slates. If your taking part in the London Marathon 2015 or you know someone that is, these are a great way of saying well done or keeping as a memory for your achievement. Our slate tiles can be personalised with the date, time, and place of the incredible achievement. We have a choice of white marble or grey slate and can all come gift boxed.
If you know someone particularly competitive why not have their personal best engraved onto one of our pebbles, you can have a set of two or engraved on the front and reverse. In a choice of white or grey pebbles they are a great momentum for all those sporting enthusiasts.
From the elite runners, to the celebrities, to those in fancy dress no doubt there will be plenty of crowds to support them and cheer them all on.
If your taking part in it this weekend we are sending you lots of Good Luck (and good weather)!
