New Letterfest Team Member ‘Ant’

Letterfest Ant

Letterfest AntAnt has been drawing our house and venue illustrations for some time now but just joined our team full-time here at Letterfest HQ and we’re delighted to have him and his health and safety know-how on board! He’s been busy since he joined, not only managing all our engraved pebble and slate orders but he’s also the hand that draws our lovely new range of people portraits which are proving hugely popular already. A talented chap, we thought you might like to learn a bit more about him so here goes!

Tell us bit about yourself… Hi, my names Ant, and I’m from Deevvooonnnn…this is Take Me Out right? Well, I was born and raised in the beautiful coastal delights of North Devon, and more specifically Westward Ho! (1 of 2 places in the whole world to have an exclamation mark in its name!). I’ve lived away for all of 8 years, and decided that the time was right to move back to my roots and be closer to family and friends. I literally love it here, being close to all the people that mean the most to me, having views to die for, clean air and the most laid back pace of life are all just an added bonus. As well as a bit of a doodler, I love sport. There isn’t a sport I won’t try, hav’nt tried or failed at…
DevonHow did you start your career? My Career started in the class room at St Georges CFE, and I was picked by a magic pencil…(all very much like that there Harry Potter fella), but, back to reality. I’ve loved design and Illustration from a very early age, and always knew that I wanted to do something with my eye for detail and aesthetics. So, after studying Graphic Design at GCSE, Sixth Form, and Art Foundation, I went to Leicester and studied Graphic Design at De Montfort. After University I embarked on numerous free placements, and then ended up at an Experiential Marketing Company called RPM, working as a Art Worker/Designer in London. I had an amazing 2 years there, working on huge clients such as Diageo, Sky and Royal Ascot to name a few, but the pull of old Devonia (she’ll get ya) has brought me back, and more specifically to the lovely little family being created at Letterfest HQ…

What have been the highs of your career so far? Whilst working for RPM, there were quite a few, but stand out projects included Smirnoff Sensations at the O2 and Strongbow Festivals. Sensations is a HUGE dance event where 20,000+ clubber’s descend on one venue per year in a major city in Europe. Luckily, I was in on the project in 2011 from conceptual ideas, all the way through to production on the evening. It was not only a huge honour to be part of the design team that worked on the event, but even to just be there was a once in a lifetime experience.
Smirnoff_Sensations_I also worked on the Strongbow Festivals in 2011, and again, from brainstorming ideas about a Pub, to then building a flat pack version at the Isle of Wight festival site. The unlimited Strongbow (other Ciders are available) whilst there certainly helped…But, I’m now working for a company with potential to grow and grow, with a great product, great team, beautiful surroundings and hopefully there will be highlights to trump those in coming years…
Graft_and_GloryWhat or who inspires you? Boring cliche time I’m afraid…But, I truly feel that inspiration is all around us. There isn’t a moment in the day where I am not thinking about something creative or doing something creative. It’s part of our everyday lives, and part of everyone of us. The clothes we wear, the music we listen to, the paper we read and TV we watch, all of these things inspire us without us even knowing half of the time. I also lost a very close friend 2 years ago, so along with friends and family of his, we set up a charity called Always a Chance. Just seeing the amount of love everyone had/has for someone so close inspires me and everyone of us everyday… Oh…and my Nan. Bless her.

What are your goals for the next year? Drink more at weekends. Swear more needlessly. Pick up the guitar and ACTUALLY learn it. Learn a language and to enjoy each day as it comes (3 out of 5 isn’t bad I don’t think?)…But the next year is a busy one for me in terms of numerous friends weddings and Stag Do’s etc, so maybe I should try and find a future wife??!!

What is your favourite Letterfest product? I LOOOOVVVVEEE our people portraits (wink wink). I think we have such a diverse array of products, that its hard to say which is my favourite. I think our finish of product is absolutely second to none, and to think that everything is done in house is a high five to everyone involved.Mother and child portrait based on a photoLast film that you saw? Last film I saw at the cinema was Django Unchained, Tarantino at his best, and I have literally just finished watching A Single Man. Tom Fords first feature film with Colin Firth. Possibly the coolest, most stylised film I have ever seen. Love it…A_Single_Man

Last book you read? I’m currently reading Bradley Wiggins’ Autobiography, My Time, on my commute into work. It’s harder than you think to do when driving…

Last holiday? I had ambitions to go boarding this Xmas in Andorra and see a mate who works out there, but never came to anything. As I say, few Stag weekends will keep me on my toes this year, and then Brazil 2014 hopefully…

Last present you bought? I just brought myself a delightful pair of shoes (does that count?)…I brought my Dad tickets to go and see Exeter Chiefs vs Leicester Tigers (we both support Tigers, so we both will be in the ‘away end’)

Last present you were given? I was given tickets to see the XX at the Eden Project in June. I saw Kasabian there a few years ago, and if the weather is good, its an incredible venue to watch live music.the eden project
